Pirahanas in lfs

Well even with pirahana being legal out here in Oregon, with the economy taking a dive, all the dang independently owned LFS are going belly up. It seems the only ones survining are the chain stores we all know about. I have been buying one inch batches of 12 from Aquascape. A dang good source I know. But alas, I finally found a semi local LFS to get all the reds,blacks and the occasional piraya. It is an hour drive from my house, but worth it at 10 bucks for a 1" red or 8 bucks each if you buy five or more. They say they have up to 8" reds for like $40. I am going up there again on Tuesday. Oh, btw im in Salem Oregon and the fish store called Rose City Aquarium is in Portland Oregon. I have located a few other reds in Eugene, but they have very few to choose from and are like 20 bucks for a 1". anybody else out there know of any suppliers or LFS in Oregon?
 
Cant help ya but I know what you mean.We used to have so many good stores here but one by one they've dropped off.
 
make sure you are going to buy a pirahna and not a pacu, they look almost identical as juveniles

$10 seems pretty high. i got my 3 red bellies for $2.99 a piece. im in illinois an the red belly is the only legal piranha i can get my hands on.

Within the city its the two MonsterPets stores,one in South Philly and one in West Philly.There is Worldwide Aquarium in Upper Darby and Captain Nemos in East Norriton which has a selection of piranhas from time to time.The PetsPlus stores used to be okay but now suck.
 
2.99 a peice for a red belly is one smoking deal. I don't think i've been lucky enough to find one for less then 5 bucks. But I guess I don't mind paying more if they let us have all specie of pirahana be legal here and not just the reds like in Illinois. I haven't yet mistakin a pacu for a pirahana, I've raised both. Just last week I saw in a Wal-mart of all places them selling pacu's I was broke that day, went back two days later on payday and someone had bought all 25 of them. I was so mad, I wanted to buy like a half dozen and raise a run of them. So now I check once a week bugging the employees to get me a batch.

Interesting,why would some species of piranha be legal in your area and others are not?
 
my cousin works at the pet store an she said that only the red bellies are legal in illinois. the blacks an the others are i guess illeagal.
