piranhas don't lip lock, there fore this really wouldn't happen. You'd have beaten piranhas as lip locking is an agression action.. piranhas aren't agressive until hungry and usually attack from the rear. If this happened you'd have a severely beatup piranha if all is equal.

actually you are very very wrong i kept some oscars for a short while with my piranha eventually getting rid of all but one.
the oscar continiually tried to lip lock the p's always ending up with no lips.
its pretty obvious your not a piranha person so why do you come into this section except to big up cichlids.
have you even ever kept piranha with or without cichlids.

Yep kept alot of piranhas. To be honest they possess under developed brains and most species are over rated. I'm not bigging up cichlids, but they are far more territorial aggressive(not talking tame oscars here) and if you throw a piranha into an already established tank with territorial large cichlids good things aren't going to happen. An oscar is no where near what a jag/rd/flowerhorn tank is. All of these are regulars of "get beat to death"

I have never kept piranhas with cichlids well because it's unethical and anyone with common sense can tell you they won't mix. If only other people knew the same.

If your flowerhorn is anything like mine i would bet he kicks the snot out of the p's. And yes i've kept p's, and liked them very much but they will usualy back down from a face to face confrontation. The p's like to chase their prey not fight it. I had one lone oscar in the tank with 7 rbp's and he lasted for about 4 months till he got sick and stopped taking food, once he started to get weak he got eaten... all but his head.

Hi all.:)

Wouldn't it be best if you just keep species of fish according to their origin? It would make sense rather than mixing fish from different origins where their requirements often differ.

I mixed my batch of Convicts that were about 2" with my fin nipping gold spilos..
At first I thought it might help take the focus off my piranhas attacking eachother, but I was wrong... My g/f made me remove all my convicts, now I have about triple the ammount. Maybe once a few more batches hatch ill throw them back in together..
The first time I havd about 50-70convicts on my 180g with 15 spilos, next time I try it ill be sure to hav about 200 convicts...
They breed like rabits!!!

also my rhom (black piranha) loves when I drop them in his tank, but coasts me alot of $ in heaters and filter parts.. :headbang2
