Sad to hear. Like tbtb says it does happen. Acclimating fish is always a gamble. Large fish maybe even more so. Lots of well meaning public aquariums are not suited for every species of fish just the same with private keepers. There are countless stories of people bringing their record fish to a public aquarium just to have it die when they add it to the display tank. Those fish should have been catch and release but its hard for some people to let go. Fish are always a gamble. They have a high mortality rate in the wild and in captivity

Hmm, I've tried it but only with maybe a dozen fishes and had a good rate of success. But I believe you. That's not good news then for me because I thought it'd be possible to stock my exhibits with some of the wild-caught, show-size NA fish (aborigines and trans-plants/invasives).
