hi guys

i recently bought a beautiful baby piraiba on-line, he arrived safe and sound, great service from SNOOK21. my only problem is i can't get him to eat. if u have any ideas how to get him to eat please comment. so far i have tried Blood Worms, Massivore delight, and feeder guppies, he won't take any. please help

have you tried putting the food right in front of him?

What are your water parameters? Piraiba do not like it too warm. 78-80º is a good range. Are there fast moving tankmates? It can be stressed as they are fairly jumpy/easily startled.

Your best bet for food is to stock up the tank with Feeder guppies, rosy reds, etc and turn off the lights. You can cover the tank sides as well to keep it dark. They eat in the dark and become very active. When I check in on my piraiba merely minutes after turning off lights they already have swollen bellies, and many times will have a fish sticking out of their mouth.

Good luck, these are great cats! Keep us posted.

If he's really new he probably needs a bit of time to settle in, some of my cats took around a week to start eating properly. Give him time and pleanty of feeders and he will come around. :)

ok, i have had him for about a week and a half, and he is in a 225 gallon, with his redtail, tiger shovelnose, and redtail x tiger shovelnose hybrid. all very friendly and native

Whats the temp? What are the sizes of the tankmates?
