My piranaha had been acting super weird lately. For about a week he won't eat, he just sits in the corner, and he can't balance. When he swims which is rare, he twitches his tail and he returns to the corner. I just did a 50% water change and he moved a little more and is breathing a little faster. Also, he had what looks to be fungus right in front of his right gill slit and his eyes have a little white on them. He's 9 inches, lives alone in a 56g. Bought him about a year ago around this size. I have no clue what his age is or what condition he was in before, all I know is he spent most his life in a 10g and then a 40g. My water had 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and about 10-20 or 30 nitrate. I feed him shrimp regularly and do 20% water changes every week or so. I know this is a bad excuse but the reason I do so little is because I work 55 hour weeks at two jobs. But anyway, I need any help and any suggestions because he's getting weaker and weaker. Any treatment I can buy at a local store or anything? Just more water changes and cross my fingers? He's my favorite fish and he's my buddy. He's personable and just amazing. So anyone if you can help me I'd really appreciate it. I'm close to tears thinking about him dying, it would be like losing a dog.
(And I know it's illegal owning him in colorado, but I have the proper approval to own him.)
I'll add pictures when I get to my computer.

maybe he has ick,
salt treatment will be good with 80-86 temperature.

feed him antibacterial food if he eats at least a little and maybe u need an anti bacterial liquid treatment.
I have a liquid called aqualine, it works with piranha infections, the aquarium said.

Bump up temp like rain21 said. 84 degrees. Water change. 40 to 50%. A pic would be helpful to diagnose the problem. Also you can add aquarium salt 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water. If it is bacterial triple sulfa is a great antibiotic to use. Please post a picture

Yup, bump that water temp. If he dont make it.... Get another and be more careful. What do you feed him?

don't feed him live animals (fish, mice and etc)
keep the tank as clean as possible, feed him 2 times a week.
every 10 days change about 30% of water

what is your tank size and what kinda electronic appliances are u using there ?

Hey guys he didn't make it. I added the salt, bumped the temp, and I got home from a 10 hour day and he was floating. I plan on buying a school of babies in honor of him and out them in a 75g. I'm gonna do triple the research on these guys and make more time for my fish when I'm not at work. I feel like I've lost a dog and it's hard not to cry. As soon as I can, I'll post pictures of him healthy, when he got sick and how it look toward the end, and also some pictures after of his teeth and what not. He was awesome..

Sorry for your luck man. it's good that you're going to get back on the horse and try again though. can't wait for the pics! you'll never replace that guy but you'll have fun feeding a shoal

This is the only picture I can get to upload of him at all, so here is what my big guy looked like about 6 months ago. (Little fish in the corner lived with him since January. My guy wouldn't eat live fish, he was a good boy.)
