Piranahas don't like light???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They will be skittish either way. But they will eventualy settle after a few seconds.. turn your lights on when you get up, and turmn them off when you go to bed like a natural schedule.. like was said b4 you could alway get soem plants that float.. if you put live plants in the tank you wont have them long.. your p's will eat the plants ( sometimes even fake plants).. just keep your lights on a schedule and in a busy zone with lots of traffic in your house

try having half the tank with floating plants, it'll look good, reduce half the light and i guess helps with Ps natural habitat

I used real floating plants in my red bellies's tank for a couple of weeks. Then they starting eating them and screwing with them too much. So I took them out and put lots of floating drift wood to block the light. The pretty much always patrol this area but also go out into the light to swim the in the current my powerhead makes. I have heard of people wrapping their fluorescent bulbs with electrical tape in a candy cane still. Have the stripes very close together on one side then have them widen out towards the other end. This will create a darker spot on one side of the tank. Also heard of people putting tin foil with holes cut in over the glass to block the light. There are tons of things you can do to decrease the amount of light in your tank. You just have to find a way that works the best for you.
Good luck

What if you took styrofoam squares, thinner flat ones, and used aquarium sealant to adhere plastic plants to the bottom, then it would resemble there natural habitat but shouldnt be of too much intrest to them as far as them trying to eat them, the styrofoam should be permananly boyant

yeah i have a baby black p 2-3 inches who always would hide in the castle that i bought for it. I don't see it during the day, but can only see at night when the lights are very very dim. I have a 35 gallon tank, with one drift wood and the castle. Im trying to figure out a way to ease his stress level to where he'll swim around and not be bogged up in the castle. Seeing what are you guys are doing sounds very promising. I was thinking about getting a red light? or should i stick to a blue light? i'll be putting more driftwood in there soon.
