Piranah is just a name that got over-rated many years ago by movies and trend. There are way more aggresive freshwater and saltwater fish out there than piranah..They do have sharp teeth though. If your looking for a killer fish check out saltwater "triggerfish"
there are diff species of those but those things are awesome,Thats my personal favorite!
The list goes on and on...

I don't agree. Piranhas don't appeal to me personally but IME most of the things said about them are true. I've had a few friends that have owned them and my brother did for a while, but it really depends on the eye of the beholder I guess. A Clown Triggerfish however...........now there's a psychotic fish, beautiful looking too. I saw one on a reef in NW Western Australia a while ago and thought about trying to bag it and bring it home but I eventually decided it looked much better there than it would in my house

I think that It depends on the Piranha your talking about. The Black Piranha is a pretty aggressive fish. I know of people who have elongs that will chase your hand around the tank. I have to use a divider to clean the inside of my tank because my Red Belly's will try and bite me for being in there territory.

I think you are possibly not so experienced with all the types of Piranha.

Like one of the guys said, Black Piranha and Elongatus can be very nasty. See a feeding frenzy of Caribe or Piraya and its something to see.

Triggerfish are nasty I admit, but they are marines and so you cant really make a comparison.

Brandti Piranha and some others are very aggressive and so a little more ground work on a very infamous fish is probably best before making comments.

Pygos are not aggressive at all.
I enjoy raising babies though. They are fun to watch, but lack any personality.
I have only kept one serra though, and it was sick from the beginning. But they do seem to be much more aggressive than pygos.

It all depends on what some one is looking for in a fish.
I didnt get them for their rep. I did alot of research before getting them, and learned alot. I got them for my shop as a show fish, and they def. are a pleaser to my customers.

i agree, i have piranhas and triggers
and they dont compare to triggers in agressiveness
they are still great fish though
i have a titan trigger

im with you all the way here nick, my pygo shoals will devour a there food in seconds, not to mention theres so many types ,i think your one sided and to make a thread about it, i think its mroe of a debate. single serra specie are kept alone for a reason :cool-1:

not to mention alot easier to keep up then salt water tanks, and of course half the piranha keepers own piranhas cause of the hype, im sure they are not let down they are impressive fish to study and own.

I disagree, sure there are more violent fish out there than pirahnas, but people can't really name those fish. Pirahna is a name that strikes fear in many peoples hearts

PIRAHNNA SUCK I HAD 6 RED BELIES IN 125 WITH A BUTTI AND DOVII ALL ABOUT 4IN THE PIRAHNA COWERED IN THE CORNER FOR A MONTH THEN STARTED EATING EACH OTHER DESPITE THE DOZEN OR SO GOLDFISH ADDED DAILY IN THE END 2 PRAHNA LEFT AND THEY WERE KILLED BY THE BUTTI AND DOVII HOSPITALISED I GUESS THE BUTTI REACHED THAT SIZE WHER THEY SNAP AND GO CRAZY HAPPEND IN ONE NIGHT

it's just like when hollywood makes gigantic rabits that eat humans. It's something cute and cuddly that has mutated. even the blood is fake. My pleco's will eat feeders. Mindless, puffers on the otherhad are majestic.
