Sounds like he will be eaten soon. Keep your P's well fed and check your parameters.

hopefully he can man up

Hierarchy within a shoal is very complicated!

And color can mean stress, anger, happyness, breeding etc.

Usually a solo Piranha that's holding its own within its territory is the boss IME. If the others are attacking it then it may be sick or injured.

I cant really say what is what without you answering a few questions.

-how long have you had them?
-how old are they?
-do you test your water? If so what are the params?
-what/how often do you feed them?

Rbp especially when young are just curious/furious little creatures, I can almost say their fine as long as your water is!

IME rbp's will go after the boss if he's too bossy during the growing stages.

I know nothing about P's except what I've read. From my understanding when one is isolating himself and hiding as it appears in your pic's either he's sick or being picked on by the rest of the group. Also from what I understand during breeding or displaying territorial superiority their colors become more intense, which is the case with most fish and loss of color is usually an indication of disease or stress again as in most other fish. I'd thoroughly check for signs of disease and if he seems okay then divide the tank for a bit and hopefully he'll get his confidence back. Again I've never kept RBP's only a Sanchezi so I'm giving you my opinion which is definitely not well experienced.

I've had my shoal for a year, and the boss who is by far the biggest and healthiest has his own territory, anyone who comes near it gets chased off. He's the one on the far left:

My point was their piranhas man, theyre different from other fish! If your water is fine and they have a good diet with no feeders and there are no visible signs of injury then there is nothing to worry about....!
