i have 15 rbp all ranging from 1.25 inches to 2 inches in a 75 grow out tank. i have good filtration and driftwood for hidding spots. they will be moved in a 350 gallon pond when they reach around 4 inches. anyways the problem is, one of my two inchers is bullying everyone and another one of my two inchers has a chunk off of his head near the fin. i keep them well fed the whole day. they cant even finish the food i give them sometimes (shrimp and tilapia). what should i do? should i get rid of the bully two incher or should i just leave him in there? i understand piranhas heal fairly fast.

now that i take a closer look at it, it seems like everyone seems to be doing a little tail nipping or chasing each other around. should i upgrade sooner? i already have the pond ready. just wanted to keep a closer look at them while they were smaller cuz the pond is outdoor..then again they might like that better. i use to have 5 3-3.5 inch piranhas in a 20 gallon grow out and i never saw aggression like this before. maybe its because theirs more of them?

honestly with that many p's at that size it is normal for one fish to become dominant and fin nip. There are a few things that might help them calm down a bit. Decrease the ammount of lighting, decrease the water temp and feed well which it sounds like you are already doing. If i were you i would definatly upgrade sooner then 4 inches because your 75 gallon would be over populated.

fin nipping is normal at the size
the fin has lots of protein
dont worry toomuch theyre gonna be okay

thanks a lot but i never turn the light on at night it makes them more skittish and i live in the Philippines so the water temperature is already normal/tropical level. ok maybe ill do at 3 inches?

thanks its just the chunk of meat on top of the head of one of the piranhas im worried about. i mean its nothing critical..i just dont like seeing bites on them. i might just have to get use to it.

Take the bully out and get a knife. Cut part of his fin off and then he will see how it feels and will possibly chill out a bit.......
If that doesn't work take him back out and drop him on the floor 2x I am not talking from 6 feet but a good 3 feet off the ground, this may knock some sense into him...
If that doesn't work, put a little puncture in his side and then throw him back in with the other Ps.....Just be prepared to remove him before they totally shred his @ss...... Then when he heals he can rejoin the group and should have a whole new outlook on life...
I am here 24 hours for advice so do not hesitate to ask :)

LMAO!! hahahahah, agree lol. That's rude tho(you could get flamed:banhim:)...but hilarious!

Hell I thought it was funny... I remember a thread or "post" similar to that but the guy was pretty damn serious...

It is normal at that size... It is difficult to keep a large group of Ps looking totally perfect. Actually you can forget about that for awhile. They will establish their territories and only group up when frightened or feeding....As they grow older the nipping will go down quite a bit. My 13 are almost at that point thank god....Just chill and make sure they are being fed enough (as it seems you are doing). Their appetite is incredible at that size. I would leave him in there unless he starts to do some very seriosu damage. The healing rate on these little guys amazes me even today. I have housed RBs for probably 17 years total.
