Why don't they list 'Tilapia Aureus' by it's actual name? 'Oreochromis Aureus' is not listed as illegal...who would win in court? Oreochromis is "technically" not a tilapia...

Both genus names are still recognized as being valid. CA used the TFH encyclopedia to form their list and the Tilapia genus was used. They will cite Fishbase as precedent where Tilapia is recognized as a synomym for Oreochromis.
 
People dealing in Illegal pets period should have the book thrown at them, before we let every pet become illegal to own.

I was hit up by inspectors about a decade ago. I unknowingly had illegal species in my possession. When I relocated to MS from WA, I didn't check the states laws in MS and was hit for thousands in penalties. I also had to go to court to plead for keeping my hatchery licenses. That cost about as much as the fines but, I was able to convince the court that there would be no repeat of the offenses.

This is the main reason I researched all state regulations and put together the Restricted Species Lists by state in the Marketplace sticky section. I don't want other hobbyists to have to go through what I went through.

Are there any canadian restricted species of fish??
 
Politics are just mad, because they can't get a profit off of it.So the government wants to come up with some bs excuse to say "selling RBP are illegal to sell out of the house".
