irritans are rare in the hobby, if one is available for sale (G has one but NOT for sale) it's going to be pricy as compare to S. Spilo and S. Sanchezi (that's what Coop meant poor man's options)

yeah that's exactly what I meant.

If you can find an irritans expect to pay 5-10x what you would pay for a sanch or a spilo. Those are great fish in their own right though. I've just always dreamed of owning an irritans.


one other thing:

ruby red spilo is used as a common misnomer for S. sanchezi.

purple sanchezi is just a color morph of S. sanchezi.

Gold spilo typically refers to a S. maculatus.

Some ruby red spilo's are the real deal S. spilopleura.

he's getting the one from Aquascape so that's the real deal S. spilopleura.
I usually saw sanchezi being called as red spilo, never heard of them being called as ruby red spilo but I won't be surprised as some of common names are being used very abusively.
 
Aquascape has 2-3" Exodons @ $5 a piece and the cheapest Ruby Red is $125 @ 2-3" not sure were your comin from sayin Exodons are rediculiosly high priced. Granted @ 12 gal. your not gonna get alot of Exodons in there and everything I've read suggests 10 min.
Personnelly I'd have went for the Purple Sanchezi for $50 @ 5" but I can understand having only 12 gal. - goin' for the smaller sized fish. Hope you can get that 40gal breeder sooner than later, hate to see you loose $200 w/shipping because you invested more money on the fish than the tank set up.

Hmmmmmmmmm Purple Sanchezi 5"' $50 and I got an empty 55............I might just have to scoop that up myself. 6" Black Mask Elongatus @ $125..........Damn too many choices!
