you can try, but never expect guarantees. Best bet is crayfish or cheap redclaw crabs. Try whatever you want, but no guarantees, even if the piranha is well-fed.

keep in mind that the crayfish should be significantly smaller than the piranha, if you get one, or the piranha may end up being the victim.

Freshwater Clams.
Many fw clams have an early parasitic phase that can cause serious damage to the gill tissue of fish.

MTS (Malaysian trumpet snails) should be OK in a piranha tank. The snails are omnivorous and livebearing. They'll clean up food remains of the Ps and clean algae from the tank. They don't leave ugly egg masses everywhere and they'll aerate the substrate.

The ubiquitous "gold Asian clam", Corbicula fluminea, does not produce parasitic glochidia.

IN MY PIRANHA TANK, IVE LEARNED THAT ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY TURN ANYTHING INTO DINNER. THE MORE EXPENSIVE THE TANK BUDDY WAS THE FASTER THEY WILL MAKE IT DISAPPEAR.
