It's hard to say exactly why your "piranha specialist" says use feeders, could be ignorance of the vitamin b inhibiting enzyeme contained in goldfish or could be he just wants more money from you by buying his goldfish. Unfortunately money making at the expense of the fish is more common than not in this industry/hobby. Lucky for you the old trends and myths about piranha keeping is being successfully de-bunked in this forum.

many so called "specialists" know absolutly nothing about they fish they claim to know so much about. many "pet store people" think that feeding live feeders is the only way to feed a predacious fish (like a piranha) and are ignorant to the fact that it causes many illnesses in fish due to disease and vit. B defficiency. many others are aware of these risks and tell you to feed them these becuse they know it will kill your fish and you'll end up comming back to buy more therefore they make more money (as well as the large amounts of money they will make off you just buying these feeders)
