get a 30 gallon, it will be good to life.

umm yea, a little extreme a 30 is fine.

Um no, do some research. A 12" fish will not be happy or un-stressed in a 30g tank.

Eventually i'll move him when i've got money. But how long does it take for him to grow? Agh i'm so impatient! I wanna see my boy get huge!

Speaking of genders, any way to tell if he's actually male? Hahaha.

not sexually dimporphic (cant tell difference in sexes unless witnessed female laying eggs or cut open)

if you cant upgrade till you have money you shouldnt be really wanting him to grow and shouldnt of gotten him i the first place since in the first year they can grow to 6" and then another two inch for the next year then the foolwing years a bit less

look into serrasalmus sanchezi since they grow to 6" they could live in a 20 for a while and a 30+ (preferably breeder 36x18) for life while reds grow to about 11" and shoudlt have any less then a 75 (40 breeder could work but wouldnt be as happy as if in a 75)

A 75 COULD HOLD A VERY MAX OF 4 REDS

standard lenghtfor a common redbellied piranha ( Pygocentrus Nattereri ) is approx 10 inchs in captivity, and 12 inchs in wild although the can reach 12 or + inchs in captivity it is very rare

Hi everyone my name is tom i have 6 red bellies in 125 gal tank they have a pet goldfish! it has been in the tank for 3 months now and only suffered some fin nibbling

i would say you should get the biggest tank you can afford. you gotta get him outta that 20 its just too small. piranhas make a lot of waste so the water will get polluted quickly. if you HAVE to keep him in that 20 gallon i would suggest you do water changes very frequently. imo if you cant get a 75 gallon find a breeder tank. the breeder tanks have a better foot print. you don't want to keep him in a tank that is only 12-13 inches wide. you are much better off with an 18 in width. the 40 gallon breeder is a good choice if you cant get a 75 gallon bc a 75 is 48" x 18" and the 40 gallong breeder is 36" x 18". these are better choices than a 20, 29, or 55 gallon tanks since these are only 13 in wide.

Along with this website, i also belong to Piranha-fury.com and piranha-cove.com and on both of those sites they tell you if you want your piranha to be happy, keep him in a 75 gal...and thats only for 1 rbp...sooo haha i dont htink yor piranha will be happy in a 30 gal let alone a 20 gal.
I have four 3inch red belly piranhas in a 55 gallon and im planning to move them into my 110 gallon tank when they get a little bigger.

Patience is the most important aspect of the fish hobby.. Learn it now or pay later..

No adult piranha should be kept in a 20-30 gallon tank, no exceptions.
