Piranha originated from invasive marine fish?

Nevermind what I said about the characin evolution-partly. They did apparently evolve from marine water some time ago, but much earlier than 3 million years ago. I feel that piranhas did not evolve seperately from other characins in south america, and that they simply evoled in fresh water.

Good read. I didn't know that their is that many different species of piranha. Now i have to collect all 28 species. I think I need more tanks. lol. I never even heard of the [FONT=verdana,sans-serif,arial]Serrasalmus hollandi. And i defenetly wanna get my hands on the new species they discovered that only lives in crystal clear water. Well maybe not my hands, a net would probably hurt less.
