Sorry for your lose. There's actually an old myth attached to the them. Refering to Loricariidaeas as "plecos" is bad luck for the fish instead use pl*cos.
My red bellies ate my pleco too. Well they ate what they COULD eat, minus his armor.
The only things that I've had with my piranhas that lived any amount of time were inverts. Currently a crab and snails have survived with them but we've had mild luck with Crawdads and shrimp too. It depends on how big a tank you have with the crawdads though.
I think there is a stickied thread about good companions for Piranhas..
My pleco has been in my tank for 8 months now. I wouldn't recommend putting another one in your tank though. it's probably not worth it as they crap more then they eat the piranha's scraps
You can never tell with piranhas until you try.
Before I sold mine I had my 6 - 5" p's with all kinds of tankmates and everything went well I had one casualty.
my piranhas don't even aknowledge the presense of my pleco at all he even scares the p's off sometimes when their leftovers falls to the bottom and he's hungry lol
i meant P's...not pleco, or get another Caribe fish...
the fact they can have many other exos in the Georgia or public aquaria is probably because those fish are in a 10K gal tank...or and also those P fishes they have are large say 10-12" pygos...
basically you can try other fish, and may have luck for a while, till you get comfortable seeing them for a month, and then suddenly notice they have disappeared! or get a fancy expensive pleco and get used to having it, until one morning you wake up and find it's head floating at the tank...this is atleast what i'v eheard, or read about those fishes..
