I was wondering what tank size everyone kept their piranhas in. I was considering getting some because I thought they would be fun to keep. I was also wondering if they would keep well in a 55g tank with a 5-6" bullhead catfish. I was also wondering what you typically feed the, and how many you could keep together. Thank you.

well they grow from 8" to 16" and they become more aggressive in groups so as long as your tank has room for the bugger to turn around and hide and such it should be fine. i haven't had piranha yet but that is what i have read. you can feed them live foods because they are carnivores, i heard of someone feeding them steak even. it might be aggressive towards your catfish so you might want to wait till he is bigger and can fend off the teeth so make sure your tank is long and wide enough, your filter can handle the mess, and your catfish can fend for itself and you should be fine with one

I'll leave this thread to some one else, but I will say that it depends on how attached to that bullhead cat you are. Tankmates are generally a bad idea in piranha tanks.

putting piranhas with the catfish would be a bad idea.
better get a 75 gal and keep 4 piranhas,so get another 55 and do a small serra

Lets say you can roughly keep 3 piranhas in a 55 gal despite some people think 3 is a bad number.

And of course ALONE unless you want to have that catfish dead, thrust me pal, they 're gonna kill him.....

Bye Bye catfish.

depends what kind of piranha you are lookin for prygo or serr and the catfish will adventually dispear aka eatin no matter what

don't do it, at least don't post picture of the catfish's left over. you'll get flamed....

If you're talking about RBPs they will never reach 16" there is very few that get to 12" in captivity.

In reality 3 is a good number in a 55 but take into consideration that if one gets messed with and dies you'll end up with one. So what you need to do is get 7 of them. And get them small and as they grow you'll have extras that if you have dead loss it will be ok and then you'll be able to pick out the three you want once they get around 5-6" and get rid of the rest.

Oh and BTW no tankmates. It WILL die. And that will eat damn near anything that gets put into there tank. floating pellet or any type, krill, live, talapia, market shrimp. Whatever you got. But I wouldn't suggest steak. Read meat isn't the best for the digestive system of Ps. and they usually only eat red meat in the wild when it's the dry season and they get stuck in pools that run out of a food source. And then they will eat anything to survive.

That has to be the the absolute worst advice I've seen in a long time.

PLEASE; anyone out there reading this....7.85 gallons of water per fish is insane. Yes, we all know how Koop kept 13 Pygos in a 125 but a responsible, critical thinking person would never consider putting that many fish in a 55. 3 is overcrowding, anymore is torturous.

This is what happens to a Catfish in a Pygo tank. This is a 22'' Channel so you can imagine the destiny of a 5''-6'' Bullhead.
