I have had my school of RBP for a couple months now. When I first got them they would get feeders once a week that I had in a quarantine tank. After those were gone they didn't get live foods for a little over a month. Now I have some cichlids that have grown enough to used as feeders but my Ps won't touch them. I put 6 in 3 days ago and it's like the piranha have accepted them as tank mates. I haven't fed them anything else since I put the feeders in. Any tricks to getting them back on live foods? I have a tank that will quickly become overrun with convicts if I can't get these guys onto live foods.

Best to not have them eat live food, but if you insist on feeding them live fish, just give the piranha time. They will eventually take out other fish. Just takes one nip and the fish will be injured and trigger the other rbp into a feeding frenzy

Oh I forgot to add convicts are the only cichlid ive ever seen survive with rbp for extended periods of time so poor choice in feeders there but it still usually doesnt work in the long run

I've had some neons ect that live with my RBP they don't really care about them but pick one off here and there. If you want them to eat the live food don't feed them and they will figure it out.

Try talapia fish fillets or pellets like NLS JUMBO FISH FORMULA.

I buy a bag of pre package frozen talapia fillets with no added seasoning or preservatives!

Ya they get a varied diet of white meat fish, pellets, blood worms and shrimp. But I set up a small tank with a breeding pair of convicts so they could have a treat once in a while but they just don't seem to care if they live in there or not.

Why would you want them to eat live? Besides over running a tank with fry. The convicts can probably hold there own with the ps but as mentioned above the ps will eventually eat them.

I guess because it seems natural. They eat live foods in the wild. At the moment there is only male cons going into the P tank. So there won't be breeding. I guess I will just give it some time and see how it goes.

i put a smaller female convict in with my 8 piranha and they killed her rather quickly. i later put a slightly bigger male con in with them and they initially nipped his tail but nothing further than that since. hes grown up with them now and has been with them for a few months. he swims amongst their shoal and will gill and nip them chasing them around. quite odd. when i initially had put him in as a feeder i didnt feed them for days thinking theyd eventually eat him but they didnt. so i just said well he deserves to live so returned to feeding them pellets again

Vanica, I'm having the same problem with my Sanchezi lol

He would always wolf them down immediately, but recently has left them alone. I also breed cons for live treats and threw about 6 in there; hasn't touched them. I guess its only a matter of time.

I guess my input would be give it time...the cons might need to grow some more in order for your piranhas to deem them worthy of their effort.
