im keepin a common pleco with my reds but ive had the reds since 1inch when i put them together...
they were scared of the pleco
and they are still scared of it @ 4-5inch now...lol??
my pleco was 2-3inch and now its about 5inch

I want to get 1 inchers also and I have a 3-4 inch common pleco.
I linked a youtube vid of a pleco fighting the piranha... . giant meat eating plecos are the best when it comes to piranahs i think....

piranhas and plecos dont last long. They can survive for a short period but will eventually get munched. I kept commons, and bristles with my reds but they didn't last too long.
Also 1 inch reds wont last long in a 30g. a couple months at max, depending on how many you have. I would suggest starting with at least a 75g or something with a 18 inch width to keep a small shoal, and upgrade when it is necessary.

I keep a chinese algae eater with my rbps and so far nothing has happened the rbps keep to themselves and the CAE keeps to himself if he ever feels threatened he goes and hides on top of the filters where the piranhas cant get to, i added them all from when they were small, well they are still small 
but we will see how it goes i know eventually the CAE will become a meal.

I keep a common and an l075 with no problems and my piranha were about 3-4inch when i introduced the plecos who are 3-5 inch
