Piranha

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had different species of Ps over the years. They were all a little too lethargic for my tastes. I've since gone with fish like dorados and FW tarpons. Just as voracious in their feeding habits plus they're constantly on the move.

However, if I'd seen one of those huge red-eyed Rhombeus Ps back then...

looks like a baby rhombeus.

they're usually shy and very skittish at that age.

I had one that was rather outgoing and feeds from my hand. wait a few weeks and see how social that little thing is.
It's like 4 months old.

I did research.

Umm I hope you people who are saying that he needs tank mates are kidding!!

Nice looking rhom though, I love the yellow color on him. People have high expectations for Ps and generally end up dissapointed with them. Give hime time though. It can take months if not a year or more for a P to become comfortable and "come out of his shell" so to speak. I have an S. Maculatus that was very shy for several months and then it was like a swich was flipped and he turned into the finger chasin, glass slammin, hand feedin beast he is today!
I didn't have that high of a expectation, but I thought he would grow faster.

York, that being a Serrasalmus you should leave it alone in the tank ( eventualluy with a pleco ) They are not shoal fish as opposed to the Pygos.

Notorious fin biters.

Well I knew it wasn't a shoaling fish cause of the shape of it.

Man I love it when people complain about their juvi p's being sissies after only having had them a few months. Brings back memories...
For over nine months I barely ever saw my serra. If there was any movement at all in my bedroom...he'd go hide for a real long time.:irked: :irked: :irked:
He was constantly trying to escape his tank too.:screwy:
Then one day, I was sitting in my room playing my playstation, I looked up at my tank which was about a foot and half to my left and he was sitting there staring at me at eye level. He hovered there for about 15 sec's and swam off. After about a month he just wouldn't swim away ever. He completely changed. He was always in your face and arro as h3ll.
That is a SWEET looking rhom Zoo.

Actually geryi can be together and they have that serra. shape...

But I too was dissapointed with small piranha.

It's not a schooling piranha, leave him be, it looks like a serasalmus, if it's a manueli, it'll get 3ft long, but it'll take about 12 years to grow that large :)

the name piranha has to much hype. you need to like piranhas for more then the name... my 9 rbp are awesome, always on the move, always frenzy. i wouldn't trade them for anything
