I was told by a girl at my LFS today that it is best to keep piranhas in odd numbers, as in groups of 3, 5, 7 etc... Otherwise they will end up killing each other. That didnt seem right to me is that true?

Piranha can count? I don't think so!

i would think you would just want a large group like no less than 5......i don't think they can count!!!! so i call BS

if she's talking about pygo then the even number = 2, any amount more than two would be fine, except probably not 3. I'd say either solo or 4 and up.
as for serra, most of them has to be kept in odd number and that magic number = 1 except geryi that you can have in a shoal (just not 100% sure if that works everytime)

Surprising how little some people at LFS know about fish. Thank goodness for MFK and experienced hobbyist.

i got 2 in a 55 had them since they were like 2-3 inchs now they pushing at least 6

I kept 2 in a 29, then 55, then 75 and they had no issues at all. I read several places online that 2 will always kill each other after purchasing them. I closely monitored them and they got along just fine.
