I had 5 rbp I got 1 month ago. I decided to do a waterchange since the wood was still letting out some tanish stufff. I did a 40% waterchange and the next morning I find all 5 dead. I was thinking if they didnt have enough oxygen since my filter creates it but for some reason it went out while i was sleeping. My water was great but I still dont have a clue how they died?

Sorry about the p's, Im thinking that it might have been the water. What kinda water did ya put in it? soft water?, my guppies died once when i put a bit of soft water in.

how big were the P's? and was this your first water change? how big is your tank?

im not sure if it was the water that killed them because piranhas can take water changes. their pretty strong.

when you did the water change, did you put tap water with chorline in it? thats the only possibility i can think of.

I have to go with paOol on this, did you dechlorinate the new water? Was it within a couple degrees of the water already in the tank?
Your filter does not create oxygen but the movement it causes lets the water exchange gasses with the air. Less than 12 hours with the filter off should not kill the fish unless your tank is seriously overcrowded, how big were the fish and what size is the tank, I know you said in another thread but I don't remember.
Sorry about your loss.

They were in a 45 gallon tank and the water was dechlorinate. The temperature was 75 degrees. The ps were about 1-2 inches. it was the first water chnage.

Well the tank was big enough and the water dechlored, The water was a bit cool for rpbs but that wouldn't have killed them. I just don't know what happened. Was your filter a hang on the back kind? You said it went out, could it have shorted? A sustained ac trickle charge causes fish to quiver like a seizure, if sustained for very long it kills from fatigue toxins, the charge can be to small for you to notice on you hand.

I had two of my caribe die like that. They started swimming funny and the other p's nailed them.

Now I try to only do a 30% water change at one time.
