Was you tank fully cycled before hand? How long was the filter off for?

It was possable that your water company had treated the water for the reason of flushing the system. Did you test water in the morning for pH? Just a possability as here in England it is not uncommon for pipes to be treated 2-3 times a year.

Did u soak the wood over night because once I didn't soak my wood and 12 of my guppies died.

I just do a 10% water change about every 1-2 weeks, I treat the tap water with "aquasafe"

Only had my Ps for 2 weeks or so, but I have had fish for years, and before I moved I had two 7" goldfish, and they are still kickin' 3 years old.
