It will only make a mess in the tank if you don't clean it up lol my advice is spend as much time as you can infront of your tank as this will help them get familar with you and less panicked when somebody walks by get them on pellets at an early age and keep they tank clean as for tank mates when they get to adult size neons they don't usualy bother as imo they expend more energy eating one than they gain plecos work as well as some armord catfish

Oh don't get me wrong I'd never feed a mouse to any of my fish either! I love my fish n I'd be really pissed if one of my breeders got bit by a feeder I put in there. I just think everyone blows the no live feed way out of proportion!I fed my rbp a 14" goldfish a month or so ago n they loved it!I'm not against feeding sunfish ect.my piranha get fed a lot of things daily. Pellets to worms to feeders to leeches to crawdads to silversides. I have bout 15-20 things all my pedators eat with 3-4 different things everyday.
I'm not against live food i am jsut concerned about what live food the fish are fed. My P's loooooooooooove live ghost shrimp and crayfish. They get a nice big live crayfish once a month as a treat:D

Always have hiding places for tank mates to get out of the way and have plants wether thay be plastic or real helps them be relaxed and show them respect don't fear them that will only get you bit during matnece and buy stock in nets if you ever plan on moving your piranha they bite right trough them as far as red meat goes if you decide to feed mice or some thing like that I wuld feed in moderation as a well varied diet is best for any fish

This may also come as a suprise to you but they do also like some vegatable mater in their diet as for live feeder fish treat them with meds for internal and external paracirtes it is just as precaution to your fisshes healt or breed your own feeders plattys or mollies are good and easy to breed for larger piranha for smaller go with guppies and ghoast shrimp

And if you wuld like any more information pms are always answerd by me. If I have missed anything I am positive some body else will get it

Why do people think p's are the apex preiditor of the waters? They do get eaten by other things and how many dead cows/caymen/birds you name it reguarly fall into the rivers for the fish to eat? Theres my rant, far as tank mates I wouldn't do anything that you would be upset being eaten, live beares and convicts are good choices because they stay small, unintresting, and if a few do get eaten there will be 10 to replace it. Plus there also fairly cheap.

I'm still looking for some males to go with my two girl convicts in my big tank. I figure after they hitch up the p's will finally get around to eating somebody.

Great rants gentlemen. I'mma stay out of it.

I did meet a member on here (hi if you're still lurking around) that also keeps birds of prey and she'd feed her Ps the left over bird feet. Said they loved them! I think she had a rhom named george also.

As a former Discus breeder a have been feeding my discus mainly Beef heart and there have been and is very much discussions if discus can benefit the proteins from red meat and so on..
P`s i think are more likely to eat red meat in the wild then discus and because of this maybe they have the right enzymes to break down the protein?

I have read a scientific publication on discus and there they say discus got these enzymes so why not the P`s.
When i breed my discus as i sad they got mostly beefheart mixes and the growth was very good on them.
Also the big discus breeders in Singapore, Germany and so on use beefheart on there discus to get them to good size.

But live mouse its a different thing,, i wouldn't give my RBP any!!
