iv seen probuly all the piranha documenterys around, and wondered why they never show piraya. id lvoe to see them in their natural habitat swimmign around or a huge feeding frenzy. it seems liek they only show cariba. is it sjut a less explored area? ud think if u were goin to make a documentery ud show these guys too. i think it would be wicked to see a shaol of huge piraya swimming around.

usually the documentary is filmed in one location only (so they can't have caribes and piraya all in one show) and to most people (general public) that the piraya and reds are pretty similar.
perhaps it is too dangerous to film a large shoal of 2ft size piranhas, maybe that's why no one every filmed it :)

haha tru but hell u put a chain mesh shark suit on me and a cam il go in hahaha.

Howdy,

Check out the making of Planet Earth, Fresh Water (for some reason not on the Blue Ray edition). They refer to them as reds, but the natives call them pirayas, and these clearly are pirayas that they filmed.

I think I've see that one, aren't those Macs instead of pygos?

I am not sure if we are talking about the same scene. It's on the regular DVD. Last scene of the show, after the end, where they explain how they shot the episode and what difficulties they faced. It's been a while since I hd it from Netflix, but I am fairly certain that the schooling P's in there are pirayas. Our neighbors have the Blue Ray, and it's not on there. Thus, it might not be on the DVD you saw?:nilly:

the scene is in the planet earth blu ray and dvd, the making of the scene is not on the blu ray version that i have, but those are definitely macs

I've seen the eps freshwater and also the extra making of freshwater, it's the same shoal which are macs, but they call them red belly piranhas in the video...we need to educate them better.
