Pistol shrimp and others

Nice photo.

I am wondering if I can put another shrimop in with my Cleaner Shrimp. What kinds of shrimp would be compatible?

When it comes to shrimp i've done alot of different mixing and matching in the past with great success.

If your tank is only a 20 gallon then I wouldn't put a coral banded and a pistol shrimp together since they are both pig headed. In a 75 gallon I once had 5 peppermint shrimp, 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 pistol shrimp, 1 coral banded shrimp, and 2 green emerald crabs together with no problems but like I say in a 20 gallon they will fight over turf. I suggest a scarlet cleaner shrimp to go with your pistol shrimp. I have a tiger pistol and he is very cool and he is also teamed up wth a yellow watchmen.

The Pistol shrimp will stay low in the tank and you will probably never see him leave far from his caves door so any shrimp who stays up high in the tank like a cleaner shrimp will be fine in a 20 with him.

I don't know if it's true or not but I once heard of 2 pistol shrimp ganging up and killing a mantis shrimp in someones tank before. That goes to show what they are capable of when confronted with another shrimp who wont run away like a coral banded. That claw no only makes a noise but it shoots out with force enough to knock out fish and even crack shells.

I doubt it. There claws are designed to produce noise not damage and are completely different to a mantis shrimps appenndages. I guess its possible still, but a similar sized mantis would crack them open in a few hits whereas they would have to pull him apart bit by bit.

A few hits, one whap and the pistol would be done with. Pistols aren't agressive at all, they just make lots of noise.
