there's lots of good natured dogs being put down. efforts & resources would be better used on prepping these for solid rehoming, rather than maintaining dangerous ones for life.

You telling me. I've had to watch as dogs I've trained, dealt with and cared for get put down because they where at the shelter to long or didn't belong there in the first place. And the sadly ironic thing is a good portion of them where pits or pit mixes who developed bad tendencies thanks to shelter stress.
Maintaing the ones who have already done something such as attacking a human is not good but if someone wants to do so on there dime let em do it. I for one will continue focusing on them ones who haven't done so

Sad for the kid. Owners fault the poor dog is chained and neglected and mistreated. I work with over a dozen pits at my daycare job and they are the best pittys any human can have. I say take the dog away and try to salvage what's left of the good in him. Try to train him. Ppl think it cannot be done but there's a big chance it CAN.

Pits are family dogs, that I believe and have seen it. There are good property guard breeds, pits are not one
