Are you kidding me right now?? you're telling me- your dog can't tell the difference between YOU (an adult) and your 7week old (child) ?? - wrong.

And i would consider my dogs "normal"
(I also have a doberman)
They play, Liked to be pet, Beg for table food, roll around, chase squirrels everything a "family" dog does.
they're not aggressive daily, theyre not timid in nature. they have never fought eachother. Cute fluffy and loveable until punches are thrown or strangers invite themselves in.

and the lack of adequate living conditions falls under "owner responsibility"

obviously he knows we arnt one and the same, and they are still slowly getting to know each others smell and sounds. my dog is a big pansy, our cat used to beat him up and my 25kg staffy ***** owns him all the time but anyone at my gate and he goes defensive and barks his tits off looking all mean.

what im getting at is a stranger in the garden is not judged by the age/size of it, all it takes is the dogs decision that its a threat... thats all, pits naturally protect their pack so you need to be so careful with bull breeds. everyone and animals have off days! im fairly placid but still have arguments with strangers, occasionally its just me having a bad day and snapping at the slightest thing.

/\well said.
unless its an intruder trying to cause your family harm they have too be put down, bad upbringing or phycotic mood swings being the reason or not...
i know of alot of youths who need to be put down too!

Essentially there is no acceptable reason for a dog to attack/bite/maul a child.[/QUOTE said:
99.9% of the time. But just like you hear about these stories, there are other stories about kids sticking firecrackers inside a cat or torturing dogs..sick sh@t! In those cases I think and hope that the dog mauls, bites or eats whomever is attempting to do these things to it. I don't care if it is a child. Better now than letting the kid grow up and becoming a psychopath who tries the same on humans.

Unfortunately if the dog has a history of violent incidents, it's probably marred beyond repair... no one wants to see an animal die, but you cant harbor dangerous animals in your house, especially not dogs, which can exit the house, and often do daily. It's really sad, and it makes me angry, at the people who made the dog that way.

However, stupid kid shouldnt have been in the yard...

you should try reading the article or at least the op before calling a 4 year old stupid

Hello; I must disagree with you. I already stated that the dogs get the bad end of the deal with people. Kids do terrible things to dogs and cats, but the deal is the dog does not bite. You make a distinction between the intentional harm caues to a dog by "psychopaths" and perhaps a child poking a stick in a dog's eye by accident. I can understand the difference. I can even agree with the notion that such "psychopaths" get what they deserve when they do these things to dogs. However the deal is that the dog endures and does not bite our children or ourselves. This again approaches trying to equate dog rights with human rights.

Wow this threads gone a bit crazy as I thought it would :D
Both my share pei have growled at strangers entering the house or even approaching me outside but as soon as I reassure them its OK they stop straight away , they have never attacked humans , they have fought with other dogs in the past
I'm a strong believer in its not always the breed of dog that's dangerous as they all have teeth and are all capable of inflicting bad wounds especially on a child , the owner plays a massive part in training and environment , I do also believe that if a dog bites a human for no good reason especially a child it should be put down as the risk is to great and it could effect another child's life further down the line.
Dogs like humans get jealous of things especially no attention , if a child or new baby for instance is introduced to the pack dogs can react in a very unpredictable way as they think there higher archy in the pack than them and can easily over power them , I would never leave my dog next to a baby unattended for this sole reason

When I was little my cousin had a big staffy it wasn't walked enough as was wild it tried to jump in my sisters pram and maul her but my dad managed to grab his harness and stop him my cousin wasnt having it that he was dangerous , few months later he ate a neighbours cat infront of the kids and then later went on to bite two people in a park before she had him put down , all this could have been avoided if she wasn't so blind about her dogs behaviour in the first instance

That's enough ranting on the matter from me :D

Why there is a petition to save a dangerous dog's life after it mauled a 4 years old kid? That kid is in hospital...you know.

100% the owners fault! Ive had numerous pitbulls in my days none has ever showed the slightest aggression towards kids or strangers. Its how u train n treat ur dog. If its chained up all day in the backyard how most ghetto ppl have em then of course they become territorial n aggressive. Sum ppl jus shouldnt own dogs at all. Sorry to hear about the kids but its the owners that should be put down not the breed..
