A word of caution about eBay driftwood. Most of it is the root system recovered from live trees. Some people have gone insane trying to get all the tanins out of it. It is attractive stuff though.

for rocks I put them through the dishwasher without soap (mine has a sanitize function) I do this twice scrubbing the rocks with a hard bristled brush before and after each cycle..... be warned the rocks will be very hot and might take an hour or more to cool down enough to be handled... also remember to let your rocks cool completely before adding to your aquarium you wouldnt want boiled fish
