I was just wondering how many, if any, of you put frozen food directly in the tank without thawing it first. I used to thaw krill and blood worms before putting them into the tank. Which seems to be the accepted way to feed dats on this site and others as well. A few weeks ago I poured some krill in my dat tank that wasn't quite thawed. My usually lazy NTTs attacked the frozen chunk and ignored the thawed krill. So I have been experimenting with my NTTs and ITs for the past couple weeks.
I have found that my dats eat more efficiently and are more aggressively when feeding when I put small chunks of frozen krill or blood worms directly into the tank.
When I put in thawed krill, the krill sinks to the bottom and the NTTs will not eat unless it drifts directly in front of them. The frozen chunks float and bob up and down and the NTTs will attack the chunk a soon as they see it.
My ITs are eating well as always but I have found by putting the blood worms in still frozen, more food gets eaten and less gets sucked up into the filter.
At first I thought the frozen food may harm the fish if they swallow a large piece, but so far so good.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? Is there any danger in putting frozen food in the tank?
