Plagued by green water...

Its a algae bloom most difintely caused by direct sun light...water changes do not help....a diatom filter will take care of it within a hour...i have had this pop up every couple years in my 20 years of fish keeping....and always have had the diatom for this reason

So my UV filter won't do anything to help this? What would be a good yet inexpensive diatom filter to use?

Uv may work but could take weeks

and that us if the flow is the right amount for alqae

I only see one diatom filter available.. Made by Vortex and starting at $100.. I'll have to think about that.

My 100 gallon tank had the same problem before but not until i changed my filter from 2 power filter to just 1 canister filter (Fluval 404).

Is the tint not coming from your driftwood or plant soil?

I don't think the driftwood is leeching anymore. In person it's a green tint as opposed to a brown tint.

Why would I need an algae scraper? I don't have algae on the tank / decor.

owain is refering to a scrubber not scraper. Scrubber uses a screen and light to build a layer of algae to consume nitrate.
