Okay, before anyone says that it's due to my tank not being clean, this is not the case. I'm wondering if the shells that I have in the tank (because the water inside them is stagnant) isn't the culprit. Often clean around them but pulled them out today and noticed the little worms for the first time.... How bad are they and what can I do to get rid of them?!

It might come with live food. I think gouramis and other labyrints eat them.
Well, it's my puffer tank and all he eats is live food, so that explains it!!!!! Plannning on buying a better filter for him today. I don't think he will do well with tankmates so any other way to get rid of them?

Well, If you have true planeria they are non paracitic. They feed off of decaying meat, so, they really just make your tank cleaner. They are pretty cool little guys, IMO. You can trane them to respond to stimulus. They can also teach others the same responce. Sorry, I am a zoology nerd...

If you want to get rid of them they are very vulnerable to extreams of temp, lite and pH.
So, you could leave the lites on for a while, and most of them will retreat into the shells and yo could remove them by hand, but I doubt that you would get them all this way.

A more effective way would be to take the fish out of the tank, and turn the heat up to about 90 Deg. And leave the lites On.

BTW, don't stop feeding them, this could initiate mating...

I had a terrible out break of them a few years back in one of my 1500 gallon reef tanks. I had to remove them all with a siphon tube. It was very time consuming.
