I tuned in tonight because the episode was called "Fresh Water" and was pleasantly suprised. There is a short but exceptionally filmed 5 minute segment on Lake Malawi and African Cichlids.

Very cool, check it out.

i saw it, pretty lame they could have done alot more

For managing to cover everything they did, I thought it was great. The shows called "Planet Earth", for heavens sake.

Ha, very good point, big planet, small fish. Of course I'd love to see a whole show on it, but I am biased.

I really thought the photography was amazing, great color, crystal clear. Makes me wish I could find wild caught specimens around here.

just saw it on my tape. really cool but i also wish there were more info. but, i remember there was a PBS show on lake tangkiyaka years ago hosted by the actor that played benjamin sisko on star trek DS9. alot of info on the type of fish and how they lived there. wish i remeber if it was on nova or nature.

What were those cichlid eating fish called? I was bummed that there was no ATF footage. The dorado feeding frenzy was cool also.

Some kind of Mormyrid I think (whatever those are). I found a bunch of articles on non cichlid fishes from Lake Malawi that use electrical signals to hunt. Those guys were pretty nasty zapping and sucking up mbuna at will.

I know the National Geographic Channel did a 1 hour show on Lake Malawi or Lake Tangkinyaka, I forget which one but it was very cool.

"Jewel of the Rift" yeah, that was a good one about Tanganyika.

The cichlid eating fish isn't a type of perch is it? I know a introduced species of perch is taking out populations of fish in the rift lakes.
