Its a general misconception that Dubai is a country, dubai is merely a city smaller than down town montreal, or london.
UAE is the country, and if you do come by to this part of the world please let me know i will be glad to show u the finest Arab hospitality.

They finish that huge tower yet? My dad has passed through a few times and he said there's so many building projects. That city has exploded over the past 10 years.

Today i did some research on where to get the best marine supplies in my area and found a place.

but i dont feel the salesman there was pretty honest, he said i require a EHEIM 2229 for this setup, where i read in many places a very basic filtration system is recomended.

but i want to understand some basic guide lines here

can some one explain to me what is better a 120g as far as filtration is concerned?

SUMP vs Canister vs Wet/DRY

is you can show me a DIY guide for all three types it would be great.

Wet/Drys are sumps. They can be very simple to quite advanced. A "simple" one can contain as little as 2 compartments, a compartment to hold bioballs, or any other bio media. And a compartment for the return pump.

Here is an example of just that: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+3587+18367&pcatid=18367

A more complex one may have more compartments and have built in protein skimmers, or a place where you can add a protein skimmer. (in some cases its better to buy your own skimmer has the built in ones may not be as good. )

Like this one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+3587+13648&pcatid=13648 (protein skimmer would go in the middle compartment)

Now a simple sump can be just as good as a more complex one under certain situations.

There are some sumps called "Berliner Systems" which utilize a nylon filter bag instead of bioballs. People claim these are better than ordinary sumps.

This is a Berliner sump: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+3587+18365&pcatid=18365

Some people build their own sumps out of old tanks they have. They are real easy to use and require relatively low maintenance.

Hope that helps.

hey man thanks for the reply on sumps.

i have a good idea now.

the stor where i went to today said i will need a sump as the protien skimmer needs to go in there or it will have be mounted on the top.
so i guess i am going to go with that.. he is going to charge me around 120USD to build it though which i find a bit too unreasonable... i watched a few videos and got some blue prints on the sumps.

myquestion now would be what capacity should my sump be for th planed 100-120g tank ?

and he said i would need to get a power head to pump the water back from the sump to the tank .... will that be enough or would i need to get proper pump?

the other option would be for me to get a FX5 or EHIEM 2229 ( as per his recomendation) would you recommend the same just lets say if i had the budget? but then i ll have to put the skimmer on top right ?

Both the fx5 and that ehiem are great canisters. I just started my 75gal with the fx5. Very user friendly for someone with little expirence as myself. I have reasearched that the eheim does the job a little better however at a cost. All canisters have a tendancy to have nitrate issues but not too bad. I will go to sump setup when I get my 150 in a year or so. Good luck with either.

Im GREEN! :D

Some people do build their own skimmers...some of them work VERY well...almost none of them are cheap. I recommend AquaC if you can get your hands on one. Spray injection is a great method, requires little maintenance, and has great longevity.

Really cant answer this question specifically, but bigger is always better.

Unless you had a very small tank, a powerhead most likely isnt going to cut it. You are going to need a sump pump, stay away from little giant brand pumps, as they are very loud.

Either way I think you are going to want the skimmer. If I had to choose between a canister or a sump, I would choose a sump, for reasons I will go into if asked. If I had to choose between those to filters, I would go with the eheim...I love mine to death. Great filters.
