Planned stocking for a 240 gallon aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Still meditating on this (and getting ready to order my aquarium :headbang2).

I have bought some of these fish and shuffled them around between my aquariums to see who is compatible.

Jaguar cichlids. These guys seem nice when I'm around, but at night they steal scales. They are going back to the store.
Convict cichlids. No problems whatsoever. They seem to get along with everything (note they are not old enough to breed yet).
Jurupari. Very peaceful, but they may have been picking on my EBJDs. As soon as I removed them the EBJDs started doing much better.
EBJDs. They are small and really need to kept alone. Hopefully when they get bigger. At the moment they are not going to the 240g.
EBGK. These guys are great. I have not had any problems with them and the aggressive cichlids. They only really come out a feeding time and at night.
Green Terrors. These guys fight endlessly with each other, and try to harass my regular Jack Dempsies as well. They don't bother anyone else, maybe due to the size difference.

Sooo based on this I think I can do:

4-5 convicts
3 electric black ghost knives
4-5 fancy plecos
1 regular male jack dempsey
1 green terror/gold saum (which I will be keeping an eye on)
3 jurapari

That seems like it would be a pretty light stocking for an 8x2x2 aquarium. Any other suggestions? If not I'm going to try and find pics of every fish thats for sale on Rapps' site.

Also if anyone has any experience with Geophagus altifrons in a community tank, let me know.

Yeah whats a EBGK??? I'd get some more sevs and geos.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I've never tried to house more than 1 BGK in an aquarium, but I've heard that it doesn't turn out so well.

awsome list, i would double up on the oscars, i mean oscars do fine alone but they seem to me like they like having a pair..... and that ghost knife is iffy, alot of cichlids love to beat up on them

You're asking for trouble getting a pair of cichlids, once they start breeding all hell will break loose.

The cons might be ok since they stay small and can do a limited amount of damage.

These are some fish I have found that I thought were interesting:

Don't know anything about these:
Threadfin Acara
Green Texas Cichlid
Blue Acara

Upside Down Catfish - concerned about how large it grows
G. Alitfrons - concerned about aggression

Concerned about the size of these:
German Blue Ram
Apistogramma cacatuoides
Sanshoku Swordtail ($$$)
Koi Swordtail
Lyretail Molly

The Green Texas is pretty aggressive. I wouldn't put one with those other fish. The upside down catfish only gets a few inches long I believe. Certain Apistos need pristine water conditions, don't know about this one.
