Planning phase of a 2000g wood aquarium

And for the sump underneath, i have 18x30in hole in between every 6x6(or stacked 2x6)

sump on my design is almost 16feet long and almost 3feet wide. I think i have alot of space for multiple kind of media. Anaerobic, aerobic and anoxic media will be put in there in different stage

or the leeway your talking about is place to work on it?

No mortar required, just stack the blocks on a flat level floor.

Your design has room for that super-long sump, but it appears as though the stand is roughly three feet high. Subtract from that about 11 inches at the top for the two 2x6's...take off another 3 inches at the bottom for two more...leaves about a 22inch vertical space to work through. How deep will the sump be? You will want enough volume in the sump to contain all the excess water that drains down from the tank itself when/if the pump is de-energized. This just doesn't look easy to do with these space constraints.

My largest tank is half the length of yours, with a similar height of stand. My sump is a pair of 50-gallon plastic bins connected in series underneath. I must reach under the tank, up over the top of the bins and then down inside to work in there. The system functions just fine as a filter...but setting it up this way was probably the single biggest hobby-related blunder I have ever committed in over five decades of fish-keeping. It is a monumental pain in the posterior to work on or in that sump system.

To further this line of thought...how will you place the sump in there? It appears that you will be forced to build the stand with the sump in place, and once it's done...it's done. No way to remove it for repairs or modifications. If you get a leaky bulkhead, you have an awkward and torturous job ahead of you. Is the sump made of glass? If so...what happens if the unthinkable occurs and you get a broken panel?

I'm not trying to be negative...just pointing out a few angles that are easily missed until it's too late.

The sump will be made of plywood. Its gonna be a pond liner probably and its about 15-18inch high. The top of the frame is 42in. So 3 1/2 feet from floor to bottom of aquarium

it will be able to hold about 400g

Hey all,

First i want to say english is not my first language, please let me know if something is not clear.

i recently bought my first house and will be moving in november in a house with an unfinished basement. After much discussion with the boss (wife) i was able to secure the whole basement for my man cave.
ive been dreaming of my big freshwater aquarium in a wall for the pass 10-15years. but i was always living in a rented appartement. Now i can finally build it

i am planning a 16' Long 6' deep 3' tall build which will be little over 2000g.

As for the plan for the tank itself. the whole lenght of the tank will have a DIY sump built into the stand. all in Wood frame and Plywood for end surface.
Pond Armor will be the epoxy i think i will use. complemented with fiberglass reinforced in all the corner.

most of the tank equipement will be controlled automaticaly at some point. (i build/repair automated system for manufacturing process for a living)
dosing, light, water change. etc...

My hot water tank for the house is a few feet away from where the tank will be. im thinking of using that to heat in a closed loop that will loop back in the hot water tank.

my main question that i have for this moment is the glass thickness i will need to get. i cant seem to find information for viewing panel only and not full glass tank.
i will separate the front in 2 x 7' panel cause i think 1 big 15' panel is way too much. the splitting of the viewing panel will help with the integrity of the tank too
i think the height of my viewing panel will be around 2' or 2,5'.

and anything recommended for a return pump that can turn that amount of water 2-3 time per hour?

I am still in the planning phase. please ask me any question that could help me plan an even better project. tips and trick welcomed.

Thanks for your time, and have a nice days
Hi there!

I'm trying to find an acrylic tank approx 1000-1200 gallons in the range of 120 x 60 x 40 inches. Is there anyone you know that builds tanks that large, or sources used ones in that range? thanks!
