I am planning to purchase leopard gecko that is about 3 months old, i was wondering for calcium and vitamins supplement should i dust the food that is fed to the gecko or put the supplements in the drinking water.

I was researching around the web and some information said only do vitamins supplement two times a week? I just want to make sure or get an idea of how many times a week should i do calcium and vitamins supplements? Should i get both with d3 or only one of them?

Thank You for answering the many questions i have

David

I realize i had a typo its for adults that is 1 or 2 times per week not babies/juvis, is this a good guide to follow?

I got the Supplement information from this website : http://www.leopardgeckoguide.com/leopard-gecko-food-and-diet/
"Supplementing the diet

Vitamin and mineral supplements are an important part of your leopard gecko’s diet. Calcium is the most important mineral and should be available to your gecko at all times by placing a dish with calcium powder in the cage. The feeder insects should also be coated with calcium powder prior to feeding. For adult geckos coat the insects 1 to 2 times per week. For babies, juveniles, and breeding females coat the insects daily. Vitamins are also a necessary part of the gecko diet, but should be used sparingly and not on the same day as calcium. Feeder insects should be coated with vitamins once every 7 to 10 days. To coat the insects place them in a bag or cup with the vitamin or mineral powder. Shake the container around until all the insects are dusted with powder."

I just dust the food twice a week that I feed to all my babies/juveniles.

If you're looking for anymore around that age let me know. I have quite a few for sale. :naughty:

I dust my gecko's waxmoth larvae and crickets with powdered cuttlefish bone ( Pure Calcium )

Sweet thanks for the tip everyone, have u guys used the brand exo terra (by hagen company) i purchase small bottles of the multi vitamins and calcium + d3 ? the ingredients seems pretty good.

To Vicious_Fish i will eventually buy some from you hehe!

Update: I picked up a 1 year old female just today haha she just ate a non dusted mealworm right now but for some reason she not touching the dusted meal worm yet, we'll see by tommrow

Leo's are often a pain in the ass and will take undusted prey items rather than the dusted, if there is a choice :grinno: Your best bet is, for the 2-3 feedings a week you dust the food, do not offer anything but dusted prey items. The rest of the feeds can they be undusted. My leo is a picky madam and will stalk prey like crazy, till she 'notices' they're a little white, licks it, and realises they have the dust on them. Tough crap, no vits, no food! lol:nilly:

I haven't used Exo Terra sorry, I purchase Calcium power neat. No brand.. I've always done this (from a reptuable animal feed supplier) and then came across the 'brand' names, and the incredible mark up they use! Seems anything with the label 'reptile' on them is marked up at least 100% Exo terra are fine to use though; they are a good company (for most things).

Best of luck with your girl :D
