Plant eating monsters?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
people say that putting in veggies and that helps, which im sure sometimes it can, but i'd rather spend my money on fish, so i have just bought fake plants, plastic and material, and it looks fine. you could try mixing them, but my pleco managed to eat a material plant so nothing is certain

just re-reading your thread, it is definately the bristlenose catfish, but its probably because they are not feeding. this particular pleco are vegetarian, they do not feed on water plants either naturally or in the aquarium, but the Bristlenose will carefully and gently graze each leaf, removing any covering of algae that may form. If they are eating the plants they are not feeding properly. Provide them with fresh veggies, zuccinni is good, and doesnt cloud the water so much. It is also thought that driftwood is a very important part of a bristlenose diet, so if you dont already have some, id get some. they do also like a meaty treat like bloodworms

It might satisfy their hunger for fresh plant matter. There is no guarantee, though, that they don't like your aquatic plants better than anything else ... My experience is that the damage will diminish, however, it will still occur. :(
