Plant fertleizer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I swear by this stuff: www.yamatogreen.com. I also break up Jobe's Plant spikes (1/10g) & shove them u der the roots.

All I have over this 90g tank is 4 regular flourescent bulbs (good bulbs though):

It can be but usually higher quality ferts will not contain much if any nitrate and are simply the nutrient you are looking for such as phosphate or potassium. A lot of ferts though are made to be low in nitrates since its a concern for any tank with animals. Not to mention it can make algae go crazy.
Also, not true. Nitrates are often added in the MOST amount for planted tanks. This is because it is a Macro nutrient. Well planted tanks, with high light, and co2, can dose 80-100ppm of nitrate a day even with sensitive fish. Higher quality ferts don't change the makeup of the ferts, they break them up so you can dose more specifically.

Yes, definitely listen to what WyldFya is saying. A while back I made the mistake of thinking my fish could provide enough nitrates for my plants. Big mistake. Almost all my plants turned yellow and stopped growing. I have a small school of marbled hatchetfish (fairly sensitive fish), and they don't show any adverse effects with me adding nitrate in liquid fertilizer form!

Quick breakdown of important nutrients. The Macro Nutrients: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium. All three must be in a balance to keep plants growing healthy. An out of balance set will cause algae growth and can stunt growth of your plants.
