Hey everyone,

So a couple weeks ago I had added some pothos to the aquarium, with the roots all around the surface. Well, after 3 weeks the silver dollars have finally learned that these are edible and are trying to eat them all. I'm actually rather fond of the way the tank looks now with the overhanging roots at the surface, so I'm trying to find a new set of dithers for the tank.

The trick is, what can grow large enough to not be eaten by the big predators in the tank (Silver Aro, Clown Knife, Achara Cat, Motoro Ray) AND not destroy my plants. Any suggestions?

I think some forms of shiners might work, depending on the tank size. Golden shiners get pretty big and are fairly bulky, but they're also very active and need a lot of space. They're very pretty, and they're native to many areas of the US, but they're legal to keep. You can buy them as bait fish sometimes or catch them in a net.

I don't have much experience but my tor tor masheer (looks like a putitora) didn't bother java miss I bet tor sp. masheer would be alright with pothos

If you can get your hands on some, adult denison barbs would fit the bill, and look great while doing it. You could also do some larger angels, bala sharks, or more plant friendly cichlids. I have never had my species from the aequidens family, I.e. green terror, blue acaras etc. eat on my pothos roots.

Are you looking for dithers to reduce aggression or do you just want something to school in the tank?

I just want something to school in the tank. The only somewhat aggressive thing in the tank is the clown knife and even then it's minimal.

I just looked up the golden shiners and I actually like them. I think they might make a good addition to the tank.

I think a nice school of KoroSensei could work. They are rather peaceful, change colors to match their mood and get a reasonable size if you cut of a tentacle or five, lol.

On a more serious note, I think a small shoal of bala sharks, tinfoil barbs or larger rainbow fish could work.

Haha if only I could have a school of korosensei. I'd never have anything else!

I'd like to do Tinfoils, but I hear that they're ravenous with the plants. I'd probably have none left after putting in a couple.
