Hey Mfk, looking for some help, getting a Brazilian Rainbow Boa within the next few months,
i have all the stuff for the tank ready to go, heat pad, substrate, water dishes, hiding places, etc.
everything except for decorations (i know they aren't a must) but i do want it to be a showy tank but also want it to be as comforatble for my snake as possible.
im actually considering putting live plants in the tank like some vines or possibly a venus fly trap? im really just wondering if plants can be harmful to the snake in any way? and if not what plants would do the best in really high humidity/heat? and also low to moderate lighting?

if any one has any experience with this being successful please let me know what you think and if it's a good idea or too much hassle?
i think it would be really cool to have some real vines and a few small floor plants to give it a more natural look, and less plastic chemically crap in with my snake lol
i really really really want this to be an awesome setup for my snake once i get the little guy lol.

Thanks!

Imho not worth the trouble. In the confined space the rainbow will destry it all.

Awe really? i figured if it was ground plants it would just go right over them, or vines that it could even just climb in the vines if it pleased? given of course it was a thick vine?

it depends on the plant... a brb would have a VERY hard time trying to crush a dwarf umbrella tree

Definite no on the venus fly trap- they need very high light and would be crushed immediately. I think you would be able to get away with some well established and rooted pothos. It grows like a weed and can form long vines that look nice. You'll need a large enclosure for it and a rainbow bow though. At least a 100 gallon size if not bigger.

okay well thanks for the tips guys,
OHH! i forgot to ask, do any of you feed your snakes fish? just wondering because i read somewhere online that you can but you know with the internet these days you never really know :p

not a rainbow boa. water snakes and the likes I have but rainbows take rodent readily. Stick to this tried and tested diet.

okay thanks for clearing that up, wasnt planning on feeding my snake fish because that doesnt seem like a food they could find naturally lol

I put together a planted enclosure for my Colombian Rainbow Boa (Epicrates cenchria maurus some time ago. It didn't last I'm afraid, but you might be able to manage it with strong plants such as Monstera deliciosa.

Best,
Paul

yeah that looks so nice and more natural than plastic or other material. i will deffinately give it a go, worst that can happen is the plants get killed lol
