Planted Cichlid Tanks

Stick to tough plants and you'll be fine. I have planted tanks with midas, synspilum, carpintis, EBA's, JD's and Flowerhorns.
I've found that tying plants to driftwood and anchoring them just encourages shredding. I keep mine kind of free so if a fish pulls on a leaf the plant just comes out rather than getting ripped off. I just put middle of the plants under a bit of driftwood and weight the driftwood with rocks.

Ah. I might just go ahead and split my tanks. One with live plants and one cichlid tank. I've never seen a large scale planted cichlid tank

I don't attach the roots to anything. You can use fishing line if you want but I find it easier to just stuff them between rocks and driftwood. They do get knocked loose but it's easier to just stuff them back in rather than scoop up their shredded remains with a net and start over. I actually caught my Midas replanting one of my bigger plants last month- He was carrying it in his mouth and he stuffed it under his Colosseum. I took all the other big plants and did the same now that he has a "privacy hedge" the way he likes it I haven't had to replant anything major since.
