planted discus tank help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright so more valls and less words, I still wanna add micro swords and an ocelot or two though. Do you feel that a fermentation C02 kit would be sufficient if I plant somewhat heavily? I need to order all my plants at the same time, so I don't want to order them until i'm confident that my tank is properly set up.

As far as planting goes, would it be beneficial to plant more heavily or less densely if i'm trying to get away with just a fermentation kit?

What do you mean by adding excel? I was planning on dosing with pfertz micros, N2, and root tabs

With what your planting you could get away with using this, some is better than none.

Excel is this

Alot in the planting world use this as a carbon source.

I wouldn't go real heavy since this will be a discus tank. Also I would have the tank up and running for several months before I introduced Discus, get the corys and rummys and BN. Discus should be last, let the tank get conditioned.

ok well I have pretty much that hagen c02 unit except it has a diffuser pump instead of a bubble ladder. The tank has been up for about a year and a half now, it has just been very low tech and I wanted to upgrade, the discus seem to be doing fine with the new light(not getting spooked or hiding). I don't think
i'm going to dose excell so valls should be fine. And my OP was my actual stocking list, I already have the 2 discus, BN pleco, and 3 emerald corys.

+1 on both the light and the C02 that Jason suggested, I haven't used any other C02 except the one he suggested but from what I've read and seen with mine the 'ladder' is great for getting as much of the C02 as possible absorbed without spending a lot more $.

Ok, well it seems like my setup should be ok from the responses, so I'm gonna go ahead and place my plant order. I'm getting crypts, anubias, a few swords, vall, and sagg. As far as ground cover and floating plants, what would be ideal for a discus tank? I was thinking pelia and dwarf sagg for ground cover, and i'm not sure abut floating plants, give me your advice please

Want some Vals? Maybe a sword?

The only floating plant I would use is a Banana plant.

I have vals - FREE
I have Sword - FREE
