i'm a little worried about starting out with a group. its been unusually hot this week and the tank is fluctuating from 82-86. would it be alright to start out with 2 4" discus for a month or two until i'm positive they will be alright? i don't wanna go out and spend $200 on fish i'm not sure will survive. the only thing that is changing is the heat, but what i've read the most important thing is stability. any info on keeping the heat steady would be appreciated. thanks!

If your worried about heat, set your thermostat a degree or two colder. I wouldn't worry about keeping two for a month. I understand your caution but once everything is cycled by all means get 2 fish, see how they go for a week and if everything is ok get the others, they are so much more happier in groups.
They quickly establish a pecking order so if you add more fish at a later date a little in fighting(pecking) will occur.
