Planted Refugium Nitrate Reduction

What about surface floating plants? Would that work better?
 
wont have to worry about that as they will be located in a refuge tank. My well water has a nitrate level of 40ppm!!! So I have to go into town to fill buckets for water changes! Hopefully this will help me either by allowing me to use my well water or by allowing me to make less trips into town.
 
java moss loves amonia and nitrate and its low light
 
Thanks guys any others? How can I get this plants in the winter? My LFS dont have enough and it would cost a fortune to buy them all from there!
