Planted tank starter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The more light, the more the plants photosynthesize.
The more the plants photosynthesize the more demand they have for Carbon and Nutrients (nitrates, phosphates, potassium, Iron + trace elements)

Since algae is also stimulated, but NOT limited by the need for all those nutrients, herein lies the problem and the need for a balance.

Your substrate looks white.?

should i do a DIY CO2 bottle thing? my friend has one, all he adds is yeast and sugar?

but i read CO2 isn't necessary, i want to avoid it if i can...

the substrate is grey with some orange in it lol, i took that pic of my iphone, not the best colors here's a better pic of the substrate.

For low to medium light, the DIY CO2 works wonders. In highlight and byond highlight, the flucations that happen with DIY co2 will cause trouble imo. Ideally youd use a small pressursed system.

As i said back 20 posts, you can make a planted tank as simple or as complicated as you want... push the limits of one thing and you have balance all the others to match. Push something far, and your simple lowtech tank setup becomes hightech with bigger needs, bigger growth, cost, and risk. Done carefully, the reward can be amazing.

At 6.5 WPG youre going to want a hell of a lot of co2 and nutrients too.

Why is this?
a low tech with a lot of light without CO2 should work, right?
