HO T5's are really good. MH are really good for compact or deep tanks. T8's are not applicable with the WPG rule, and you will need to have far more T8s to equal any other type of light mentioned.

ok. so ive figured i want a 76cm deep tank(30 inch).final dimension are 30Lx24Wx30H inch tank. i will shop round for t5's. what do u mean by compact. do u mean heavily planted?
Compact as in the tanks that aren't too spread out, like a 55 or a tank with dimensions of 48x24x12 would be no good with a MH, it would be a waste. MH's are great for compact tanks that the light will actually reach the area. Your tank will do really good with a MH actually.
thanx heaps wyldfya. looking to set this tank up soon(gotta buy me an fx5 first) then will post pics/guide. another question; can you add plants the day you set it up or do i need to cycle etc.
