the freshwater puffer and amano style tank took me about 3 hours to do both.

yes i do only in teo tanks tho. the one in the cabinet with the black sand has a fert substrate under the black sand and i dose every 2 weeks when i do water changes with Aqua Magic Ferro-Max 10ml and aqua Magic Shink-Precure( chinglish) 10ml.

You may want to dose ferts more often. Although the substrat is plant substrate, it does not contain nitrate. ALso by not dosing more often, you will need to replace the substrate sooner. With that dosing regime I'd give you 6-8 months.

Wyldfya, would once a week dosing be ok? i have debris on the bottom as i dont gravel wash or vac, i merely take out most of the detritus that is visible.would this help with the nitrates help?

yeah thanks algae is minimal in the cabinet tank and the amano stlye tank has only been setup for like 10 days so nothing yet(or ever i hope) i keep 2 SAEs, an albino bristle nose, a flying fox and a lot of ghost shrimp for algae control seems to be working for me.

i also try to stick to strictly 10.5-11 hours light a day.
