planting/decor ideas for 300 gal

I like the wood off center as well. Plus, it makes the tank look bigger :)

Another suggestion regarding wood positioning - look up the "golden ratio". This is a principle that's used in design to determine the most aesthetically pleasing arrangement. I think the wood is currently positioned a little bit too far off to the side and will look better if it's moved a little bit closer towards the center (roughly 2/3 from one side of the tank, or more accurately 1/1.6 based on the golden ratio).

Regarding plants, sounds like you're off to a good start. You could also consider some java fern for the dritwood.

Agreed... wood is too far to the right.

Excellent now where getting somewhere!! I moved it about four inches to the left, should I keep it faceing straight forward (first photo) or slightly tilted with the right side forward as in second photo? I need to get everything hardscaped on the floor before I start adding water because I can't reach the bottom of this tank.

Anyone with more input? I am going in search of more rock in the morning, just looking for an idea of what to look for. I need to frame in the vals I'm planting in the left corner with rock so the don't get pulled out or dug up. It seem every layout I've done this far doesn't look natural.

For such a big tank I would recommend large Java Fern Mats. I bought my java fern mats online at $25 per plant and I have 10 mats in my tank total. I tied them down to my driftwood. Here is the tank for some visual reference to how I set up my plants and driftwood. I hope it gives you some ideas.

Very nice setup atty. Here's a new pic. I am trying some rock placement with a couple of pieces I have on hand. Does it not look natural mixing different rocks? I should have my overflow and plumbing parts in the mail today and hope to have plants and water in it this weekend. I am thinking of rehomeing my blue channel catfish, all it would take is a freak out from him and he would trash my layout.

I appreciate all the input so far!!

You should move the wood a bit left but not centered. You want to be able to have your fishes swim freely on both sides of the driftwood. With your current position fishes will have little room swiming on the right side of that driftwood.

Atty my idea is to have the area on the left for swimming room and behind and under the driftwood for a place for catfish to hide. I guess I will see how that works after they are added... This thread has 250 views and only 18 post!!! C mon mfk you can do better than that!!
