planting media?

yes you can just mix it

you did say you are going to put your plants in pots
if that is still true i would go with the laterite
like WyldFya said it will stunt their growth but your tanks not big enough for a
full sized A. sword anyway

whatever you do the mixing is good because clay substrates tend to be lite and dont hold roots well

Thanks. I'm not sure if I am still going to pot the amazons. It might help to keep them under control though. I'm also going to be redoing my 75 gallon and adding more plants to it, but the 40 gallon is what I want to focus on and get done. I think I will post a picture of it so people can see what I want to plant.

I had great success with crypts and a reddish type sword plant with profile substrate, which I think is the same stuff as the shultz aquatic soil. Also www.turface.com I guess is where you can get the big bag versions, not sure which one exactly is the same as Profile Clay Soil Conditioner was 6 years ago though.

In fact when it came time to move I just threw the substrate and plants away cause there were so many roots I couldn't really salvage the substrate. I mean I'm sure I couldv'e put it in like a garbage can and let it dry out and then mix it around to seperate teh dried plant roots/leaves from the gravel, but I was moving out of an apartment and you know how that goes, need to be out on sunday, don't bother packing anything until friday night.
